Building Works: 3 New Classrooms
As you may have noticed, we are currently having an extension. Three new beautiful classrooms are being constructed in keeping with the original Widdows design. Building works began in November 2017 and should be completed by 31 August 2018. We aim to keep you updated as much as possible. Soon the new classrooms will no longer be new and just a part of the village.
History: Creswell Junior School was designed G H Widdows and opened in 1912. The school has been extended several times over the years, but externally it retains much of its original 1912 appearance (with all development being centred on around the inner ‘V’ section). The school was listed ‘Grade II’ in March 1989.
Creswell is one of the largest villages in the District of Bolsover with a population of around 5,000 people. With a busy village centre focused along Elmton Road.
Historic maps indicate that this was area was a green field site adjacent to the railway sidings until Bolsover Colliery Company commenced building of the Creswell Model Village in 1896. The school followed shortly after and was completed in 1912. The proposed site for the new 3 classroom block is located to the south west of the existing building, adjacent to the Social Centre and Elmton Road.
